The
davywavy LJ awards 2003
Jul. 2nd, 2003 10:08 amWell, I thought that MTV could do it, and BAFTA could do it, why shouldn't I have my own awards ceremony?
Sadly, no expensive dinner and televised awards ceremony as yet, but if anyone knows any wealthy potential sponsors I'm sure this is something we can work on in the future. The awards are purely arbitary; nominated by myself and voted for by our prestigious panel of judges - myself. Several awards have more than one winner; these are not listed in order of merit. The winners should imagine themselves clutching an expensive statuette and making a tearful acceptance speech to the assembled media; sorry, but it's the best I can do.
Perhaps someone who knows about this computer design thingy could knock up a little logo for winners to use on their sites? Gosh, just imagine the prestige. Something to tell your grandkids about.
So, without further ado, the awards - and winners - are...
The William Shakespeare "Best Writer" award.
The winners are:
nebuchanezzer, who, despite writing about love and other gooshy stuff, writes well enough to keep me reading.
wicked_wish, but then that's to be expected.
atrophy_angel, who writes like James Joyce would if he'd had an LJ.
Bubbling under:
marlowe1 would have won an award were it not for his 'Fuck You Limeys' post, which served the double purpose of losing him an award and also alienating me from the viewpoint he was supporting.
The Russ Abbott "Wittiest Writer" award.
The winners are:
mamahooch whose "Writing Shakespeare project" post did make me laugh.
riksowden, who posts nothing but crap jokes - but then again we aren't very interested in what he's really like anyway.
The Mona Lisa "Best Icon" award
The winners are:
robinbloke, for taking obsession to the point of absurdity.
andydavies, who shouldn't be allowed out of the house unaccompanied.
The Elizabeth Wurtzel "Best insight into the mind of somone completely crackers" award.
The winner is:
sherbetsaucers for being the only person I know to get institutionalised live on LJ.
The Confucious "Most reasoned LJ" award
The winner is:
borusa, who remains calm, collected, and quietly competent irrespective of what life throws at him.
The Professor Heinz Wolf "Best original thinker" award
The winners are:
eddyfate, who has had a body of original work published, which is a lot more than I ever have.
atrophy_angel, whose writing displays consistent startling originality. When she does any. Hint.
robinbloke, who would probably be singularly less original if he ate less sugar.
The Dolly the Sheep "Best newcomer award" (For person who has started posting in the last 12 months)
The winner is
boog
The Comical Ali "Least convincing threats in a written medium" award
The winner is:
grimjim, who has been making threats about people in the US for years but who has consistently failed to follow through, even when we paid for him to fly over there.
The Emma Peel "LJ poster I'd most like to see naked on a trampoline" award has been cancelled after taking legal advice.
Ditto the Bella Emberg "LJ poster I'd least like to see naked on a trampoline" award.
The Rebekah Wade "That's really more information than I wanted at this time of a Monday morning" award.
The winners are:
faerierhona, who revels in that sort of thing.
godzuki, for introducing me to the concept of furry sex. O.o
The Chocolate Shoes "She's my girlfriend and so I ought to give her an award or she'll sulk" award
The winner is:
puddingcat, for the above reasons.
The 84 Charing Cross Road "LJ poster I've never met but would most like to go for a drink with on the basis of their posts" award
The winners are:
mamahooch
nebuchanezzer
The Tony Benn "Most touching adherence to a political philosophy that has been discredited by history" Award.
There are three winners of this award, but being Commies I'm sure they won't mind sharing. The winners are:
applez
inskauldrak
raggedhalo
The Narcissus "Most self regarding writer" award
Goes to myself, naturally.
I have decided not to do an overall best LJ award, because the competition for this prize would have been too great, and I wasn't entirely sure of the criteria I'd apply.
Next year I'll take nominations, and possibly votes from the audience.
