From [livejournal.com profile] riksowden.

1) you come across as having a dry sense of humour, combined with an interest in politics and current affairs. To this humble reader it appears that the mass of humanity amuses you, how accurate is this?
I'm not sure I would say that humanity amuses me so much, but if I didn't laugh at them then the crushing wieght of despair would render me unable to function in a meaningful way.
However, I am indeed astonishingly witty and fascinated by the world about me.

2) as a Yorkshireman living in London, what amuses and horrifies you most about London? What made you want to move there, and stay there?
Horrifies? London is *full of southerners*...ahem.
In reality, the worst thing about London is it's impersonality. The fact of so many people here means that general, low-level rudeness is the order of the day, simply beause there is little chance that you will ever see anyone to whom you aren't polite ever again in your entire life. This is true of most large cities, but couple that with the sense of superiority that Londoners seem to carry (as if living in this pee-pee soaked heckhole conferred anything special) and that drops the quality of life here measurably in comparison with anywhere else I've lived.
I moved here because it's where the jobs are, and I stay here because they pay me to do so.

3) what is your position on fox hunting (in fact, lets make that all hunting), and why?
Hunting is a fraught issue, which I think is profoundly misunderstood by the majority of the population, but hardly surprisingly. Having grown up on a farm, I see a dramatic and worrying divorce from the natural world in most urban people, which I know results in a sunny, anthropomorphicised, and downright unrealistic view of the natural world beyond the concrete.
As fox-hunting stands, I'm pro on the basis of it being in this case the most efficient way of reducing common vermin. I think predation is a better death, particularly for the species as a whole, than any other alternative that I've heard proposed - or seen any demonstrations for. In fact, gosh, come to think of it, I haven't seen 400,000 people demonstrating in favour of *any* other alternative death (gassing, shooting, famine, disease etc). Nor have the antis ever handed me a rosy pamphlet showing persuasive photos of gassed fox corpses. Weird, eh?
I'll step back from further comment and wait for those who gained their view of the natural world from Bambi and Enid Blyton to try and shoot me down.
As regards all hunting, it's such a broad subject that it's difficult to comment as an 'over all', especially in the space I'm giving myself here. There are significant differences between an African Bushman hunting for food in Namibia, Idi Amin hunting for Elephants in a helicopter gunship, and the South African Game Wardens culling Elephants which damage the crops of indigenous farmers . I think cases have to be judged upon their merits before comment can easily be passed.

4) what are the greatest things in life? and why?
Trampling the masses beneath my iron heel, mocking the poor and afflicted, exercising my Droit de Seigneur and making [livejournal.com profile] raggedhalo's blood pressure rise...
No, try again...
To crush my enemy in battle and to hear the lamentations of his women...
Nope, try again...
Many of the best things in life are free, but not all of them. Sunshine on the trees, the month of May, victory, there are many things like that. To my mind, the two greatest luxuries are time and privacy. As for why? I think that's kinda obvious.

5) gold or crimson?
I work for a company called Crimson you know....
Gold the object, crimson the colour. However, understand that crimson is by no means a colour I like, but it is slightly less tacky then gold.
