Strolling home this afternoon from a lunch with [livejournal.com profile] cryx (who wanted to talk about the stock market*), I was stopped by a chap in the street who asked if I wanted to be on TV. Normally this is a question that would have me fleeing to the hills, but he seemed a friendly enough fellow and so I heard him out.

"What we want you to do is just walk in front of the camera, past that billboard", he indicated.
"What's this for?" I asked, suspiciously.
"We're making a programme about art and advertising", he said. "What we're going to do is edit images onto the billboard as you walk by, to show how artistic and advertising images of people don't reflect reality. We'll have a male model on the board-"
"And you want me to represent sorry reality?"
He looked a bit sheepish. "Yes." He said
I laughed. "Okay."
And I did just that.

So there you have it. It's a programme about the history of art that will be on BBC2 next spring; a documentary about the history of the beautiful male in art and advertising. And by way of contrast, representing the genuine sorry reality of the male in all it's shabby and saggy glory, is me.

*Q: How does one go about making money on the stock market, David?
A: By doing the exact opposite of me, it would seem.
