The Emperor has reasserted his full confidence in one of his closest aides, Jabba the Hutt (pictured below), after accusations in the press of conflict of interest in the sale of the Mos Espa Grand Arena to a Correllian gambling magnate.
"Jabba is a talented, decent individual", said Emperor Palpatine. "Who has made an outstanding contribution to the Empire. There is no question of his behaving in any way other than in an absolutely above-board fashion. When he visited Correllia he was simply enjoying their famous hospitality and indulging in the fine cuisine and dancing girls."

However, critics of "Two Droids" have disagreed with the Emperor's opinion. Leader of the Jedi Opposition Luke Skywalker described Jabba as a 'Crime Lord', who has lost the respect of the Imperial Community. Added Skywalker; "It would be better for us all if someone were to simply strangle him with a chain, but what are the chances of that, eh?"
Jabba first hit the headlines several months ago when photographs of him groping Princess Leia Organa at an Imperial function were published. Jabba later admitted to having sex with Organa in his Ministerial Palace on Tatooine, but asked for restraint from the press so he could rebuild his relationship with long-term partner Sy Snootles. However, in recent days more accusations of affairs with Twi'lek dancing girls have appeared, including one with a girl called Oona whom he reportedly fired after she refused his advances. "Oona was quite literally eaten up when she lost her job", said a friend. Despite a reduction in Jabba's governmental role in the wake of the scandal, critics remain outraged that he has been allowed to keep both his Palace and ministerial Sand-barge.
In other news, Imperial Chancellor Grand Moff Tarkin has angered moderates in the senate by pledging his support to a 24-billion credit, ten year update of the Empire's 'Death Star' technology. "It is imperative that we maintain an independant Death Star deterrent", said Tarkin. "Once we have a fully armed and operational battle station the Sandpeople will think twice about attacking us, believe you me."
However, critics of the plan suggest that Death Star technology is outdated in a galaxy where battles are no longer fought by grand armadas, but instead by small fleets of rebel ships, striking from hidden bases.
