Modern dilemmas
Jun. 11th, 2010 10:07 amThe thing about life is that as it goes on you don't half accumilate a lot of complete crap. Most of my complete crap is in the form of comics and game stuff that I'm never going to read again as long as I live - and more to the point I now look at and wonder why the heckers I bought it in the first place. Crikey, I mutter to myself as I pull out a copy of yet another "Limited First Edition!" comic from about 1991. Did I ever seriously believe this pile of tosh was ever going to actually be a collectors item?.
Anyway, I've been selling a huge pile of bobbins on eBay over the last few months. I own a lot of things like old comics which, looking at them, I'd rather have the money, thanks, and eBay is really handy for getting rid of stuff. However, I'm also a bit of a nosey so and so and I wonder who would buy some of the stuff I've been selling on, and so when people buy things off me I tend to put their name into Google out of curiosity.
Which lead me to an interesting moment. Googling people's names has directed me to blogs and facebook pages and I'm fully aware that I'm being a bit stalker-y, but I reckon it's a harmless interest so I don't worry too much about that. However, on a sale I made a while ago I popped their name into google and the only place it came up was...well, do you remember that list of BNP members which got leaked a couple of years ago?
It's quite wierd getting that sort of instant insight. I considered whether I should be petty and decline the sale, but in the end I decided that I'd freely entered into a contract and it would be wrong to turn it down. I know a lot of people would disagree with me and let their beliefs colour their reactions. What about you?
