Yes, you can put your mind at ease
Jun. 27th, 2011 11:06 amIn a gloriously entertaing moment this week, I couldn't help but notice that UKUncut, a pressure group dedicated to demanding the state spend even more pretend money than it already is, are holding a protest march in Sheffield and are inviting people to come along "Come dressed as a worker; a nurse, a teacher, a builder".
Now, a more cynical man than me might suggest that this is de facto evidence that UKUncut is comprised almost entirely of students and union activists who've never actually done a proper day of work in their entire lives and this treating actual workers as "fancy dress" is just a sorry and doomed attempt to gain some credibility, but you'll be delighted to learn that I'm not a cynical man. That said, I've spent a fair chunk of my life on building sites and I'm prepared to bet actual cash money that less than a third of any actual workers who show up will be builders.
So, in a gesture of solidarity with UKuncut, I intend to go to this protest dressed as a Construction Worker, just like they ask. I hope I can persuade some of you lot to come with me dressed as some other important workers: A traffic cop, a sailor, and maybe a cowboy, perhaps.
