As I've recently become an Uncle, if you ask me these people seem to have the right idea about child-rearing.

Ah, if only he'd succeeded...

If I ever go to Japan, I'm learning the language from this book. Baby.

And finally, the last place I would have expected to find a post dedicated to women in uniform would be on an Iranian Army website... (Work safe.)

Who of your siblings has offspring now?

Sister. She got married a couple of years ago. I've been shanghaied into babysitting once or twice, which is fine so long as there's plenty of gripewater in the house and the PS2 is switched on...

Weird website (the irandefence.net). I don't think it is officially related to the iranian army in any way but I'm not quite sure what it *is* for...

Good post though. :)

Seems to be some generic forum for soldiers/army members.

I'm just surpriesd by it being Iranian more than anything. You'd expect it to be 'Burqa Beauties' or somesuch under the circumstances.

I'm really not up-to-date with the gossip anymore or my memory is getting worse - one of the two.

Mentioning Japanese phrasebooks, I can't remember the name but the one from the 50s(?) Bill Murray used while in Tokyo for the filming of "Lost in Translation" is apparently quite cool, too (according to a bit on the DVD extras).

How big is the Wade clan?

Not big enough, but thanks to my handy clone-o-tron, soon there shall be enough of us to rule this puny Earth.

Maybe posting photos of foreign women is OK while those of Iranian women isn't?

If you scroll down, there are Hijab-clad iranian female soldiers posted.

On another note, there's also this video which might be a Monty Python sketch, but in fact turns out to be real

See, for years I've said that children should be kept in cages... what an excellent idea.

The Mickey Mouse cartoon is rather unusual, actually, in that one of Mickey's ears is shown in profile. I think it's the only time I've ever seen it done. I believe the Disney animators were always instructed to treat Mickey's ears like a Picasso - they existed in a different dimension to his head, so the viewer invariably saw them full-on.

How they'd deal with this constraint at Pixar, goodness only knows.

And this is signed by Disney, too, so I suppose that makes it canon...

A few comments:

Regarding child electric-shock - I do recall a few years ago, a group of youngish men who were "caring" for a young boy - they had him in one of those vests with electric shockers to calm prisoners and is legal to use when questioning in some courts. I should have reported them. :-/

Also, regarding the women in the military, a lot of those photos seem done-ups. Interesting to note those services that demand strict adherance to non-gendered haircuts. That aside, interesting to see the Iranians with MP-5s (if I remember the small arm's designation properly) ... who do the Germans not sell to?

If you read the summary of the strip (It's actually a whole story-arc), Disney suggested the idea for the story arc, but Disney himself had handed the artwork and writing off to someone else by that point.
