nope, not really my sort of thing. I agree with some of it but am not in favour of bloodsports and what appears to be an attempt to seperate the town and country even more than already. I hope it goes well and fully support the use of mass civil protest, looks like its well organised and intended as a highly civil affair. If nothing else you guys can show the Anti-Capitalist loon brigade how to make a point without smashing up a StarBucks.

Either that or at some point the anti-capitalists and trots need to meet with 'old-school' stewarding *grin* and I'd advise a similar hard-line approach on this march to Mr Wade et al if any of the numpties that defaced the chalk horses turn up:

Turn-of-century hunger marches, occassionally someone would be heard to cry 'march on city hall' or a similar incitement.

They'd be heard once.

They'd be found off-march later...

Oh, and whislt I disagree with blood sports and so on I think it's cool that peaceful mass protest is still being used. Hope the weather's good for you Dave.

P.S anyone objecting to the 'commie brutality' above should think about this:
young children, oaps and similar are out for a peaceful march, some twit wants to stick them in the middle of a riot. Boot the twit off hard or watch a five year-old go under the hooves of police cavalry?

I remember back in the 80s' & early 90s' watching the lefty whingers all out marching and thinking "What are they all whining about?

It's interesting that such a reversal of political reality has occurred in such a short period of time. *grin*

Of course, I only argue with lefties as strenuously as I do as I think it's probably good for them to meet someone who disagrees with their political viewpoints; student & unemployed life tends to be a bit of a political monoculture, speaking from personal experience :)

My reason for grumbling quietly about the Countrysidfe March etc was that I hate the idea of bloodsports, however necessary the culls may be. I didn't realise, as it's conveniently been omitted by most media reports (even the Telegraph on many occasions) that the March is about much more than bloodsports. The otehr "causes" I agree with to a greater or lesser extent, but they aren't as headline-grabbing as hunting.

Sadly, by focussing on unpopular aspects like the hunting lobby, the majority of the press can divert a lot of attention away from serious issues, like the governments handling of the foot & mouth affair. Stuff that really matters, in other words.

Culls, yes, but I don't think hunting is an efficent or humane way of doing that. I do agree with the other 4 points of the charter, but the bit about hunting just sticks in my craw. Does Cardiff count as rural :-)

Being a genuine 'country lad' these marches piss me off.
Hunting is enjoyed majoratively by the upper classes and townies wanting a 'taste of the country life'.
The real problems of the countryside are...

Transport
Emplyment
Housing

Not frigging hunting, frigging farming subsidies or frigging foot and mouth.

The govt was under major harassment BY the farming lobby during foot and mouth AND the BSE crisis (different govt, but still).
Farming may be hard, but a lot of the farmers are total c*nts.

Hunting lobby though... grrr, they really nark me.

If you're genuine country, surely you know that farming has the highest incidence of suicide of any profession (even higher than doctors), foot & mouth has destroyed the livelihoods of thousands, and the placards being carried seemed to indicate that the majority of people were indeed from rural areas. This isn't to say that the problems you raise aren't problems (they are, and a part of the countryside alliances raft of greivances - rural post office closures, low pay conditions, reduction of local bus services et al are all covered in their literature if you read it), but current govt. policies seem designed to exascerbate them, not solve.
Sadly the media have given the impression that it was a 'pro-hunting' march when in actuality it was a whole lot more than that, if you'd been there.

I checked the website.
The marchers themselves made it a pro hunting march, if you didn't agree with hunting you weren't welcome.
These people don't represent me, my family or any of the previous generations of my family that have lived in the country.
I've read it all, but I'm afraid all I see is the posh nobs tacking hunting and land-ownership issues onto everything else to elicit sympathy.
Yes, a lot of people lost their businesses and livelihoods from foot and mouth, perhaps if the farming lobby hadn't been so anti vaccination and anti the measures that needed to be taken things would have been less of a problem.

Say what you like about Anti-capitalist marches, but at least most of the attendees have chins.
