The BNP is drawing its newer support from the Labour core vote, absolutely. My point was that your argument (about Labour creating the ideal conditions for fascist genesis) doesn't actually stand up to close examination.
Also, the BNP really aren't lefty extremists or appealing to lefty extremists. They spend a lot of their time in battle with lefty extremists (groups like the SWP and SP are the driving force of Unite Against Fascism, for example) -- hell, I've personally been named on a watch-list by the BNP as a "Communist party activist." They attempted to threaten me in the wake of the publication of the BNP membership list. *shrug*
Sure, they'll draw some really fringe types from the left, same as they will from the right. But the point is that their politics are nationalistic, not progressive.
