So Ken Livingstone has (jokingly but crassly) said that the choice between him and Boris in the upcoming London Mayoral elections is like the choice between Churchill and Hitler.

Well, one of them is a stout fellow with a background in reporting who dispenses cheery bonhomie with all the benefits of a classical education, and the other is a chippy little fellow with a moustache and a history of making anti-semitic statements.

You know, I think I can see what he's getting at.

Oh dear, Ken Livingstone is in the race again? I seem to recall that I recently declared, in reference to the man's charmingly paleolithic comments to the tune that bankers should be relegated to an 80 per cent income tax rate, that nobody listens to what he says anyway, but apparently they do.

While I do *not* like the way Boris Johnson acts while in power, I think that was a really stupid thing for Ken Livingston to say. I agree, it was crass.

Thing is? Boris says that, and worse, and no one even blinks. Comparisons to Pol Pot, Stalin, etc are fairly normal for him. Livingstone said it while eating lunch with a bunch of journos, most of whom didn't even think it worth reporting as it was obvious joke territory.

I mean, I lived in London at the tail end of his last term, and I think he's a useless arsehole, but the hypocrisy of Boris supporters in the whole thing gets to me. Boris can make crap jokes and it's "just Boris", but Ken makes a very similar joke and he's the devil incarnate.
