Quick show of hands, please.

Everyone who thinks this chain of events is total coincidence please raise your hands

1) RBS/Natwest having their credit ratings dropping resulting in their interbank borrowing costs rising under Basel II rules.
2) bank customers get paid into their accounts on the fourth Friday.
3) Bank systems suffer a glitch meaning customers can't get their money out over the weekend.

This has Northern Rock 2 written all over it, I reckon.

Most likely I'm seeing because I'm looking, but I have been expecting something like this for the last year or so'

OR its about a decrepit backbone to international banking computing which has ben under invested in the last decade. Mainly because of wrangles on international standards and the incredible complexity of putting a new system in place and switching it over live.
