For markets to work, the customers need to be informed. It's why repeat sale rates of the 'luxury' brands you mention tend to be low, but the quality brands (Honda, Toyota) are very high.
And why once people re-learn what turds one bunch of politicians are, they boot them out, having forgotten in the meantime how awful the others were.
