Fact: TTIP will result in the NHS being privatised. The EU has consistently stated the same exclusions as the Canadian treaty has in. A far more interesting one: Fact: Leave is bankrolled by someone who wants to privatize the NHS and the MPs on the leave side predominately support this.
Fact: The EU protects your rights. Try: Will existing rights under EU law be up for grabs again, until new UK versions are enacted?
Fact: If the UK leaves the EU will send back all our Expats. Fact: If we leave the EU we will deport foreign expats living here The answer is reciprocity. Leave said today that with the points based system, existing EU residents would not be sent back. Conversely, if we do start, then UK residents will be sent back the other way. The interesting conclusion from that is that the claimed current pressure on housing, schools, etc, will NOT be lessened with a leave. Then add likely membership of EFTA or the EEA – that both requires freedom of movement to be retained AND payments. The Norwegian model would cost us about £100m/w, soaking up all the money we don’t already get back from the EU. Conclusion: No change in number of EU citizens here, no money liberated, no increase in border control. So strike those as an argument for leaving.
Holiday: The EU requires a minimum 4 weeks holiday. The UK requires 5.6 weeks of holiday. That is misleading. 4 weeks of the 5.6 IS via the EU minimum. Scrap that, and you are left with bank holidays only.
Fact: If the UK left we’d have no influence over the regulations The counter argument is what is important – the stated proposition is “if we leave, we would have freedom to write our own regulations”. No, we would have to conform to the ones required by whatever trade deals we are in. If “Freedom to have the regulations you want” is why you are leaving, an out is worse than now.
