I suppose it’s possible that the EU would implement sanctions against itself (that’s what a sanction is – making it harder for you to buy other people’s stuff), as the UK leaving may drive them spare.

One last comment that I feel I should make -- while there's an element of bluster in the dire Franco-German warnings, I would generally expect Germany, France and the chief EU institutions to take a genuinely hard line after Brexit, at least initially. I agree that there would ultimately be a deal, but Paris and Berlin are under implicit pressure not to give the UK a generous or accommodating separation deal, and may opt to suffer economic losses at the negotiation table to make sure London doesn't get one. I don't know how much, and obviously I don't know what the final EU negotiating position would ultimately be -- there are so many countries to consider! -- but I'd bet money that you'll hear a lot of tough talk after Brexit, at least.
