Flying

Can anyone tell me what American Airlines are like?
My usual airlines of choice (BA and Vurgin) don't fly direct to St Louis and so I might have to fly with a lesser airline. Are they any good, or would the extra travel time on BA be rewarded with extra comfort & facilities?

I flew with them in 2001, just over a month after 11th of September. Food was quite good. Service was a bit lousy, though. None of the flight attendants were under 50 and every time you wanted something they were really really bothered to have to get up from their coffee it seemed. There was only one cool attendant, a huge black woman who probably cooks a mean gumbo at home ;o) but she rarely was in my section.
I think there were only drinks with the meals, any extra you had to specifically ask for and only non-alcoholics were free IIRC.
That doesn't bother me too much as I rather stay sober on a journey that takes a lot out of me in the first place.

Not sure about leg space, I had a whole row to myself so wasn't really bothered. Besides, my legs are short. ;o)

Very important for Dave: No extras or goodies or toys or games. There was a screen on the backrest in front of you, though.
