I really enjoyed hanging out and spending several hours talking *utter* crap with
con_2002 on Saturday night...it was the thing that made the drive to Castleton worthwhile.
In other news, I've had a string of odd dreams lately; one which may best be summed up in the phrase "Look out! It's Saruman and he's got a Tommy Gun! Quick! Into the flying saucer!", and another in which I was an air hostess (which proved my long-held belief that this ust be a very boring job. Does anyone know an air hostess who may be able to tell me if this belief is correct?)
If only I were one of those psychologists and could analyse my dreams so I knew what they meant.
In addition, I went to see Scary Movie 3, which was very funny indeed if you like people getting repeatedly kicked in the groin by aliens. Fortunately I do, so I laughed a lot. Worth seeing just for the '8 Mile' skit and the 'The Ring' sendup alone.
Cold Mountain is a curates egg - the best cinematogrphy I've seen in a while, but oddly soulless. Jude Law's travels reminded me of nothing less than David Lynch's 'The Straight Story', Natalie POrtman could have been cut out completely without losing anything except 20 minutes, and Renee Zellweger has watch calamity Jane once too often (although that isn't a bad thing). Good film, but not for the scritp - the acting is great, the direction is ok, and the scenery is unutterably beautiful.
