It's been observed that as men get older, they get fatter and hairer whilst their ears and noses continue to grow. There are many theories as to why this may be, but current scientific thinking suggests that it may be linked to men running slower as they get older too - cavemen, unable to chase down mammoths as they aged, evolved to grow to look more like them as they got older so the mammoth would see this small, fat, hairy, big-eared-and-nosed thing approaching and think it was a baby. And so it was that older men got to hunt mammoths too.
It's true, you know. That's science, that is.

These thoughts on aging were brought on by my trip to the Wendyhouse up in Leeds. It's the sort of club that [livejournal.com profile] faerierhona and [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke might like - Rhona because they play lots of EBM (Electronic Bleepy Music) and Robin because there were at least two people dressed as Dorothy from The Wizards of Oz there so he'd fit right in.
The world of cheesy gothdom is quite small - I saw people I recognised from varoius places, such as at least one Cammie (but not one I knew well enough to say hello to) and a guy whom I'm utterly convinved I knew in my Manchester incarnation a decade or more ago. The thing about him was, I'm sure I used to know him well, but I have no other recollections about him - who he is, what circumstances I knew him, where, when, anything. I can't help but think that he might have been part of the queue which used to form outside my ex-girlfriends bedroom door whenever my back was turned, but I could hardly go up to him and ask 'Excuse me, but did you happen to hump my ex, ten years ago?' Besides, it's not like I particularly care if he did, these days.

Anyway, what going out has shown me is that whilst my somewhat limited gothdrobe is still vaguely handy for playing pirates at the ICC, it really doesn't cut the mustard when trying to keep up with the modern dandy young goth-about-town. As a result, my decision to go out shopping has been reinforced, and all I need to decide is where to go and what to buy.

So here is a poll.
Imagine, for sake of argument, that I have a pile of money littering up the place and nothing better to do with it (I know that is a bit of a stretch, but give it a go). Where should I go shopping?

A) Cy-X.com. It's Cybergothtastic and, aside from making the wearer look like a complete pillock, also pretty cool.
B) Shanghai Tang. Not exactly goth, but so nice and well cut and generally great that it can be worn anywhere.
C) Oakley. Not goth either, but ooooh, those are nice boots.
D) The New York Stock Exchange. Not goth at all, but you're getting too old for this crap anyway, David, and my-oh-my those US Blue-Chips are looking jolly cheap thanks to the weak dollar.
E) Other (Please Specify).

Vote away, chaps.

In other news, I have yet to get round to going to see Tim Burtons' latest Big Fish. On consideration, I'm tempted to wait until the two sequels, Little Fish and Cardboard Box come out.

You've not put a http:// in, so it's trying to append it to the existing page, eg
http://www.livejournal.com/users/davywavy/www.cyb-x.com

I assume you mean http://www.cyb-x.com ?

Yep, minor twiddling of background (there was Too Much Brown) and adding highlights to eyes - I do try not to steal graphics without adding my own touches a *bit* at least ;)

Purveyors of really cool but horribly expensive cyber stuff, things that do almost look like cyberwear. You get a full body armour from head to toe but that'll cost you the same as a car, almost.

Not for you, though. Can't see you as a rivet or trad goth, either.
Shanghai Tang looks good, though.

Um, isn't there a small roleplaying thing going on on the third weekend of March? Or are you eschewing such things?
