Pick an interest from my interests page that either 1) you know nothing about but sounds intriguing, or 2) you know something about but can't fathom why yours truly would be interested in it, and request an explanation
Sei Shonagon was a handmaid/court lady in the Royal Court of 10th Century Japan. She wrote the Pillow Book (so-called as it was written on a series of lengths of paper kept in a pillow) which was her diary - she comes across as intelligent and cynical, so naturally I'm interested.
I've addded new interests recently, and so I'm now intrigued to do it again. Last time I got some illiterate goth somewhere in the midwest. LJ seems full of them.
Have you read The Fox Woman by Kij Johnson? It's a little odd, but it's a very interesting peek into Japanese life. It's written as a series of diary/notebook/pillowbook entries made by the main characters, one of which is a fox who falls in love with a man.
No, but I've just finished 'The secret history of Lord Musashi' by Junichiro Kanizaki. It's one of those books that occasionally you stop reading, stare at the authors name on the cover, and silently ask 'Just what were you smoking when you wrote this?' It made me realise just how little I understand the Japanese. I may make a more in-depth post about it in the next few days.
A lost city in the Jungle in the Yucatan. My favourite place in the entire world, and it pains me that the wench won't go to Mexico so I can't show her it. I went there in 1997 for an afternoon - and stayed for a week, sitting atop the Temple of the Jaguar and watching the monkeys come down to drink from the river as the sun began to set. A truly magical place.
Shopping with Jesus is a band that comprised of the alter-egos of ukporl, jessworld, and angelfish01 with occasionally me tagging along as bemused music journalist. They never release any material, but always have a very good excuse as to why not.
