I have a string of inexplicable bruises down the left side of my ribcage, the tendons in my right leg are complaining about the strain, I think the burn on my arm is from a cigarette, and my knees are filing for a decree nisi.
I Love going clubbing.
Whilst a large proportion of my social circle were in Birmingham at the National, I skived for the first time since 1997 (1997! Bloody Hell, I've been at this for too long) and headed off the Manchester for yet another of
puddingcat's birthday celebrations at Jillys in Manchester. I suppose that when you're as old as I am birthdays just slide over one, but for a whippersnapper such as her I suppose they're still worth making an effort for.
Thanks to a timely tick up on the stock market, we took a suite at the Palace and she,
robinbloke,
boog plus others and I went to party the night away, randomly encountering Jamie Owen on the way - whom I haven't seen since our evening of public campness in BIrmingham almost two years ago.
As an aside, the last time I went to Jillys with Boog was in 1993. It's an odd feeling.
There's a bloke hangs round in the classic rock room looks exactly like comics writer/auteur Alan Moore. One of these days I'm going to get squiffy enough to stagger up and slurrily demand that he write more DR & Quinch but until then I'll pass.
Overall, a good evening seemed to be had by all, even if the musical selection was fairly uninspiring and so we ended up back at the hotel watching Phantasm II and eating ice cream by 2am.
Clubbing with
robinbloke is a real challenge. We're both aggressive and very physical dancers (if I didn't know he's such a decent chap I'd find him deeply intimidating when he's in full-on EBM-mode) and I tend to try and keep up with him, which as he's fitter than me leaves me feeling like proper crap in the morning. However, T'ai Chi has definitely improved both my posture and balance although it took an act of will to avoid dropping into Snake Creeps Down during Jesus Built My Hotrod.
Anyway: good evening had by all, I think. And, to make up for not going to the national, on Saturday night I dreamed I was there and it wasn't very good - so perhaps my subconscious was telling me something.

Date: 2004-03-22 08:50 am (UTC)Maybe we should get feminist or something? (except of course that its nice to be desired - oh heck, how do I resolve this post feminist conflict?)

Date: 2004-03-22 12:35 am (UTC)I know what you mean - 11 years is rather a long gap for going to rockworld.
Had a good time though - let me know when you are next in Manchester

Date: 2004-03-22 05:48 am (UTC)But yes, good fun dancing, trying to keep up with me when I'm dancing to the Prodigy is extremely inadvisable :)
I'd never realised I could look scarey!
Definately a must-do again!
