Thanks to modern market research techniques, it is now possible to really judge what people really think. US-based market research company Widgery & Company has done that, and found out just what issues weigh most heavily upon the minds of the citizens of the world's most powerful nation.

70% of American women have never had an emotionally satisfying relationship with a Republican.

In the last year, 36% of Americans have chanted “We’re number one!”. Only 22% of Bush voters have chanted “We’re number one!”

39% of Americans believe that guns ‘are not as dangerous as they say’.

98% of Bush voters believe they will never know ‘just what Victorias Secret is’.

88% of Bush voters ‘have no idea what rappers are talking about’.

34% of Americans who voted in the last election believe that “Forrest Gump” is a documentary.

37% of Americans say they would hate being British but would like a British accent.

17% of American college graduates would punch themselves really hard in the face for $50.

If Jesus came back and saw that Pat Robertson is now his spokesman, 46% of Americans think we’d be in really big trouble.

26% of American gun owners feel that the second amendment protects their right to buy explosive fertiliser.

28% of Americans think that the USA’s high-tech military equipment is too expensive to risk in combat.

One third of American women thought that Baseball was more exciting during the players strike.

14% of Americans agree that Puerto Rico should not become the 51st state because ‘the extra star would make the flag look untidy.’

Bwahahahaha.

Actually, I agree with the last one. It's really superficial. But that's the way it goes. Though my roomate tells me that they have 'alternate arrays of stars going up to 60'. The hell. They don't tell us these things.

Up to 60?

So which 10 countries are you planning to annexe that you haven't told us about?

Let's see...

Annexing the bordering Canadian provinces should garner at least 7, then we can take up Guam & Puerto Rico in for another 2.

I'd mention some bordering Mexican states, but the US gains more by milking those states without having to bring them up to US spec. ;-)

That's what I asked said roomate. He shrugged and replied, "Gotta be prepared. Besides, if you're in the Office of Flags, what else're you gonna do, stare at it all day?"

He does have a point.

Actually...

The flag can easily accommodate more stars, so long as we return to something like the 1776 Revolutionary flag, and use rings. To avoid too much of an Olympic reference, one could get by with multiple interlocking rings of stars in a different format.

It could work, and would certainly get away from the cold uniformity of the current design.

It's .. more of a joke, than anything. "We can't have a 51st state! The flag'll get all unbalanced!". :P

have you ever been to the states? it's pretty awful some of the things we believe and do. I always think to myself-- no it can't possibly get any worse, and then... it does!
