Paranoia, thy name is Livejournal.

A couple of weeks ago, I was surfing about LJ whilst bored and ended up on the calendar page of someone who has me friended. It was there I noticed they'd recently posted something I could read.
Naturally, paranoia instantly reared it's head. What were they saying? Were they talking about me? What don't you want me to know?
Of course the truth is probably a little more tawdry. My most recent limited access posts have been about getting up groups to go clubbing and the like and so they've been aimed at specific people, but there is a delightful frisson of uncertainty to see that people are posting stuff one can't read. I know that people use their LJs as personal diaries and as aide memoires and the like, but then again those posts could be anything. Perhaps people don't trust me, or they're saying I smell.
Ah, paranoia. Isn't it thrilling?

Date: 2004-06-23 06:35 am (UTC)Hubbie - Only
Women only - for those delightfully TMI moments. THinkging about it this is rarely for the gooey details, more for the emotional mewing that I feel only another woman would understand.
Locals - for those people that are actually local to me & I see RL regularly.
There are a few others but you get the idea.
You are however in:
Camstuff - guess ;)
RL - people I have met in Real Life. you quailfy.
So, depending on what I am posting about you may/may not see what I post. And it may or may not be worth pondering about what you can/can't read ;)

Date: 2004-06-23 07:33 am (UTC)And I had a nice proverb ready but forgot how it goes in English and don't have a dictionary at the office :-/ I'll not attempt either because it would be so susceptible for naughty comments if I screw up ;)

Anyway, to assuage your paranoia, in future I'll post a "Filtered so David can't read it post coming up" post immediately before anything you're excluded from :)

they are out to get you
Date: 2004-06-23 01:08 pm (UTC)stalkingreading at the time. If it was someone you actually know in real life, they probably were discussing your general malodorousness and thinking of ways to confound and annoy you (such as luring you to the Midlands and standing you up?).But if it is someone you don't really know, well the options are pretty much limitless. They could simply have whole areas of their life that you will never know anything about - areas they don't trust you or want you to know about; or they and a select band of their flist could be running a paedophile ring; or they could be posting unexpurgated versions of texts you only get to see the PG version of. OR, even though they have never met you, they too could be mocking you too... posting something like 'there is this weirdo I've friended who is such a freak he spends his time checking other people's calenders...'
