A couple of weeks ago, I was surfing about LJ whilst bored and ended up on the calendar page of someone who has me friended. It was there I noticed they'd recently posted something I could read.
Naturally, paranoia instantly reared it's head. What were they saying? Were they talking about me? What don't you want me to know?

Of course the truth is probably a little more tawdry. My most recent limited access posts have been about getting up groups to go clubbing and the like and so they've been aimed at specific people, but there is a delightful frisson of uncertainty to see that people are posting stuff one can't read. I know that people use their LJs as personal diaries and as aide memoires and the like, but then again those posts could be anything. Perhaps people don't trust me, or they're saying I smell.
Ah, paranoia. Isn't it thrilling?

I have no idea what you're talking about. If only everyone could be as secure as I am.

I rather enjoy imagining what they could be writing about. It's good fun in the main.

Sigh :) I sort of know the feeling, but then I have some of the following custom groups that you are not on:

Hubbie - Only [livejournal.com profile] charliemouse can read these.
Women only - for those delightfully TMI moments. THinkging about it this is rarely for the gooey details, more for the emotional mewing that I feel only another woman would understand.
Locals - for those people that are actually local to me & I see RL regularly.

There are a few others but you get the idea.

You are however in:
Camstuff - guess ;)
RL - people I have met in Real Life. you quailfy.

So, depending on what I am posting about you may/may not see what I post. And it may or may not be worth pondering about what you can/can't read ;)

Oh, I'll just make up the adventures you've been on when I can't read it :)

I forgot the additional idea I had of having seperate LJs :)

I used to post stories about weird stuff, oddities etc then thought my friends might get bored. enter [livejournal.com profile] weird_news. Then got 2 cats, Misty & Sophie (renamed Mango) and was warbling on about them - again I created a seperate LJ just for them ([livejournal.com profile] bluecream) that both [livejournal.com profile] charliemouse and I can write to :)

Rest assured that if I wanted to say you smelled, I'd say it to your face.

You smell.

Livejournal Pronoia... there are posts I can't see. It must be people saying how much they love and respect me, but they don't want to embarrass me or reveal their secret love for me.

Hm, well, friending you is a good way to keep up with your journal, it doesn't necessarily mean people want you to read everything.
Having said that, I absolutely forgot about the possibility to exclude only particular people on the friends list from friend only posts! *runs off to make category for everyone but Davy* Not that what I'll post will be more interesting that what you'll imagine, but I wanna participate in any way helping your imagination develop even more ^_^

Hah! I still haven't seen that first list so I'm not even scared!

And I had a nice proverb ready but forgot how it goes in English and don't have a dictionary at the office :-/ I'll not attempt either because it would be so susceptible for naughty comments if I screw up ;)

Is it paranoia if they're really out to get you?

Why are you using Wimsey as a LJ icon? He's nowhere near power-hungry enough :p

Could it be a not-so-subtle way of attracting Harriet Vane?

Anyway, to assuage your paranoia, in future I'll post a "Filtered so David can't read it post coming up" post immediately before anything you're excluded from :)

they are out to get you

It rather depends whose journal you were stalking reading at the time. If it was someone you actually know in real life, they probably were discussing your general malodorousness and thinking of ways to confound and annoy you (such as luring you to the Midlands and standing you up?).

But if it is someone you don't really know, well the options are pretty much limitless. They could simply have whole areas of their life that you will never know anything about - areas they don't trust you or want you to know about; or they and a select band of their flist could be running a paedophile ring; or they could be posting unexpurgated versions of texts you only get to see the PG version of. OR, even though they have never met you, they too could be mocking you too... posting something like 'there is this weirdo I've friended who is such a freak he spends his time checking other people's calenders...'

I think I'll refrain from joining in on this one, and simply spectate.

What, were you expecting someone a little taller?

I can put my heels on if you'd rather.

Oh, I say, ding dong.

Then again it'd be difficult to expect anyone shorter, I suppose.
