I’d like to say I really liked robinblokes‘s version, and I almost changed my version to his…but I have to remain true to my original vision. If you haven’t read the rest of “The Locked Room”, please do so before clicking on the solution. You can find the rest of the tale by scrolling down my LJ, and then guess who you think the killer is before checking.

There was at knock at the door, and Inspector Jenks poked his head around.
“David Wade?”
I looked up with a guilty start. “Yes?”
“I’m arresting you on suspicion of the fictional murder of Doctor Black.”
“But…but…”
He bustled into my office.
“Don’t bother to deny it, Wade. It could only have been you. Only you – the author - could have manipulated the evidence and changed things to make it so difficult to solve. You might think you’re smart, Wade, but this time you were too smart for your own good.”
I sagged, visibly beaten. “It’s a fair cop”, I whimpered.
“Just one thing” asked the Inspector. “Why?”
I sighed. “It’s been a long day, I was bored at work. I had nothing else to do.”
The inspector glared. “You murdered an innocent man because you were bored? You make me sick. I think you should be bloody well hung.”
“I am.” I replied.
With that, they slapped the cuffs on, and I left the office for good.

Never read Sophies World, nor anything by Ray Bradbury. I may have the idea subconsciously from teenage watching of late night Twighlight Zone repeats, though...Never can tell.
