I have downloaded SETI@Home onto my work PC, this adding my run-time to the search for Martians wherever they may be hiding.
One thing that SETI say they'll do is that, if your PC is the one that discovers alien signals, they will allow you to name the alien race.

I mean, how cool is that?

"The tentacled monstrosities from beyond!"
"The menace from the stars"
"David's Space Bitches"

I just can't wait to discover my very own alien race so I can name them. I mean - how difficult can it be? There's got to be lots of aliens out there. I've seen Star Wars and Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica and any number of other TV shows about Space, and all of them are rammed with frisky alien ne'er-do-wells, desperate to make free with our Earth women.
So not only could I prove that we're not alone in the Universe, we couild also have a jolly good war with Johnny Martian and show him who's boss.

But, as a question to you lot - if you discovered an alien race, what would you name them?

Oh, Oh, I know what you could call them!

"Yorkshiremen"

Although I dont think there is anything that Alien out there....

What a great name! It has a certain resonance of...civilisation...great deed...generosity..kindness...stoicism in the face of adversity.

....avarice, weak beer and best of all we know how to beat them! Get a second rate welsh nobleman who is brought up in France to round up an army in the NW and hey presto - they'll all be looking for their horses!

Ah, but these'll be SPACE Yorkshiremen, and thus won't fall for such underhanded trickery.

I was considering the other day why all the planets were named after the Roman gods and not the Greek gods. Mars would be Ares then, so we would call aliens Aretians.

Hermes, Aphrodite, Earth, Ares, Zeus, Kronos, Poseidon, Uranus, Hades

You can also donate some of your spare computer capacity to climate change equations...similar to SETI@Home. I haven't a link at the mo though.

more Aliens!

Aliens are cooler, and with their advanced technology can create an idealic temperature and controlable weather patterns all over!

Hooray for it forever raining on Manchester! Oh, wait, hang on...

Fancy bumping into you here, on an LJ of someone I have NO idea who they are but who commented on one of my OTHER friend's LJ's...

OK, that made no sense, but you probably know what I'm talking about...

I'm scared now. LJ is too small.

I'm still having to go with something annoying. Such as 7685560XL/1-A

Or maybe I'll work out what that is in binary to make it even longer and more pointless.
