I'm sitting here, watching SETI@Home run, and waiting for that phrase to burst forth from my PC speakers. Isn't it exciting? Any moment now I could be talking to our new alien masters.

But, to wile away the time, I'm reminded of how Captains Scarlet and Black were kidnapped by the Mysterons and made indestructable. I was wondering: when the alien menace arrives and kidnaps you, what superpower would you like to be given to further their evil plans? Would you like to be indestructable, or perhaps to fly? Reading the minds of others - or simply taking over their brains?

Personally I think I'd choose shooting laser beams from my eyes. I reckon I could really advance the conquest of Earth with that one. What about you?

kidnapped? i thought they got killed and replaced by mysteron agents? captain scarlet is then foiled in his attack on cloudbase by blue and dies before coming back all inexplicably indestructable. never happens to those other poor suckers taht the mysterons "replace" does it?

Really? I never really worked that bit out; I must have missed the episode where they explained it all.

I always assumed that they kidnapped Captain Scarlet and made him indestructable and then found they couldn't operate on his brain due to his indestructability. Then they kidnapped Captain Black and operated on his brain to make him loyal before making him indestructable, having learned their lesson.

I may be wrong, but it's the only explanation I could ever think of.

i'm sure the first episode contained the premise of it all although you never got to find out why captain scarlet was indestructible (as the other human stooges that the mysterons replace just die off)nor did you find out why he was no longer under mysteron control. black goes to mars and misinterprets the mysterons actions as hostile. he then opens fire on their rather large city from the precarious comfort of his small tank. rather unexpectedly they then blast him to smithereens and then resurrect him as an agent under their control. i can't remember how scarlet dies, some later mysteron attack i suppose

I better shut up now before you realise how sad i really am!

How about a fashion sense? Those alien conquerors are gonna want some damn fine clothes whilst they're forcing us to break rocks and dig holes, you know.

True. No point conquering the Earth and plundering its resources to further your own ends only to show up at the after-party and make an arse of yourself on the dancefloor.

They should read up on philosophy, politics and literature too, so they don't feel left out of the conversation of the puny earthlings

or maybe just watch some corrie, learn at least 10 descriptions of rain in order to be able to socially discuss the weather, drink a few cuppas and read the sun. they'll have no trouble fitting in.
maybe it would be an invasion somewhat akin to those of ankh-morpork where the locals see the invaders as an opportunity rather than a threat?

or do you mean fashion sense in teh sense of: "I can detect fashion...there's some round here somewhere", a bit like Spider Sense?

Nah, you're probably going to get a rather dull bar of 3 musical notes. If you are exceptionally lucky, it will also include some confused 1940s pilots and some 1970s-themed colours. ;-)

I'd just like the ability to not give my enemies forewarning of all my evil plans; an ability the Mysterons (and the Riddler) do not seem to possess.

Shape-shifting, which, being reared on what now counts as being cult or nostalgia TV shows like Space 1999, I have long had a yearning for - quite apart from its Earth conquering potential. However, the havoc that could be caused would be quite delightful as countless sci-fi writers have agreed. Not to mention all the other possibilities my new power would open up....any chance your aliens might be persuaded to grant me this one?
