Well, after a brief hiatus, I'm back. I'd like to thank everyone who asked or got in touch to ask if I was okay and find out where I'd gone - sesquipedality, autumn_storm, interior_lulu, stickette, puddingcat, faerierhona, student_heaven, hiromasaki, cygny, omentide, karohemd and eddyfate thanks all of you - and special thanks to ukmonty, for ringing from San Francisco to find out what was up, cryx for ice cream and then hippo- and bananaphone- related nonsense at just the right moment*, and rosamicula, for the largest steak I've ever seen in my life.

Where did I go? Well, without going into too many details, I was bloody miserable and then I cheered up again. Life's like that sometimes.

One of the things about being bloody miserable (at one point I found myself almost emitting the eternal cry of the pathetic - "Life hasn't turned out the way I wanted, and it is everyones fault but my own! Oh, woe!". That's how down I got) is that it really puts life into perspoective - and the perspective I got was that, whilst I might be down right now, I normally have a bloody great time of it and browsing through photos brought that all back.

I've been thinking of doing the grand David Lj photo retrospective for a while, and looking at all those memories made me think; "Yeah. It's been great, hasn't it?" Of course, any photo retrospective needs a soundtrack and with that thought I had to decide...Little Angels' "Too much, too young?", perhaps? Or Kiss' "God gave Rock and Roll to you"? But really, given my cheese-rock heritage, there really was only one song to choose.

I'm not sure that just riddling his attempts to be Popular and Self-Pitying on LJ with commentary about how far his male pattern baldness is spreading isn't enough.

I don't think the poor boy has grasped that 'popular' and 'self-pitying' are contradictory terms.

You're right about the baldness too - he's defintely reached the stage where hair starts to drop off the head and sprout on the back...

I don't know - have you not noticed the sheer _mass_ of 'I'm feeling bad today, pander to me!' posts on LJ? It's self-pitying and popularity contesting; it means you can see how many people bother to put a post that says "*hugs*" in the comment section.

The more pity, the more popular. Obvious. :P

ThankfullY I have never received a *hugs* comment form anyone, probably because I've never solicited one! I know what you mean though, it is certainly one of the more distasteful aspects of blogging.

However, that wouldn't work for our Davy because he doesn't want hugs, he actively thrives on abuse and mockery. So we should mock him most when he's maudlin, I think.
