Sitting back to take stock after my life's latest sequence of absurd lurches, things aren't looking good. Despite having made a profit in August, this may well not be enough for Wade International after a lacklustre September. To put it mildly, I'm probably not going to be able to afford to pay myself in October - and unless we see a monthly profit in October, Wade International may not see the end of the year (November being famously the worst month for business in this industry, so we need cash in the bank to weather that).
Unless things change, sharply, what this means is fairly stark: I'm going to be living on beans for the forseeable, I'm definitely not going to the ICC, I'm cutting out any social life which involves me spending any money whatsoever, and if I could cancel GenCon I would, but it's booked & paid for so I can't.
Basically, don't expect to see much of me unless you're paying.
If any of you happen across a bag full of money whilst out walking the dog or something, remember that my need is greater than yours, okay?

Oh, and I'll be buying a lottery ticket on Saturday.

In other news, I managed my best time this century in the mile run last night, and then at Ninja High School I was punched solidly in the face by a pugnacious Irishman (who I got back good and proper), and then I was punched and kicked in the head by a stocky Australian semi-pro Muay Thai competitor (who I didn't even get close to, never mind get back).
Perhaps I should sell tickets to watch me get beaten up. It might raise some funds.

To work!

As promised, a post to explain the Silence of the Dave. :( Anything we can do to help? Free publicity? Web dev?

Not really I don't think - the only person who can make a difference is me (and my colleagues, obviously).

We can probably raise more funds one way or another, but it's going ot be tough. If we can see it into the New year, we should be fine - the next two months are really going to be break time though.

Christ, well, if there's anything you can think of for an army of web able minions to do, let me know. :( I'd wish you luck but I'm sure you'll make it ;)

I *may* be willing to pay to see you get the shit kicked out of you. But then again I could just take you clubbing, get you pissed (on others peoples beer), point them in your direction and see it for free!
Seriously though, good luck.

let me know when you are free for a booze lunch/dinner. As I havent recruited a new sidekick I suppose you will do :) so I'll spring for the lunch.

On a more serious note let me know if I can help in any way, I have no problems with giving you more mailing lists etc (I see it as a form of revenge on certain companies anyway).

Off to bath this weekend to see Emma and be introduced to her chums, otherwise you could come round, drink my malt and watch cheesy movies.

I wouldn't be free this weekend, as I have an inordinate amount of stuff to write for GenCon and not enough toime to write it. Thank'ee kindly for the offer, however.

I probably won't be free until after gencon, now. Sad though it is to say.

I know how you feel, was in about the same situation two years ago. I just hope it turns out better for you than it did for me. *hug*

Perhaps you shouldn't have bought loose women cinema tickets, gin and tonics and dinners last week, you fool.

If you make it out on Sat to meet Tigs I'll treat you.*

*To fine wines, gin and food, not the usual verbal assault and inducements to make French noises.

Are you likely to be around next week, whilst I am traversing the hot spots of London?

The odds are against it, I'm afraid. Work work, busy busy, work work, bang bang.

Aren't you able to get either a further bank loan or (and I know you don't want to) sell some shares?

We hope to raise some more cash - we probably don't need that much, as the likelihood is we'll only tip over our overdraft limit by a bit. But even so, it's worrying.

I always did think you were optimistic to expect to start turning a profit so quickly. You need to be prepared to take time to build these things. Our firm is only now consistently turning in a monthly profit - that took over a year to achieve and so it will still take awhile for us to reach the point where we've made a net profit overall. Hang in there!

We went in underfunded; we can't take our time over it without becoming insolvent.

You're in the magazine and publishing buisness, ne? I know it would be outside of your normal clientelle, but my band is in desperate need of a full-blown press pack. Any chances you would be willing to handle that for us?

I can point you at our designer, but to be perfectly honest the additional cost of having a publisher in the mix and then having something printed in this country and shipped internationally would not be worth your while.

The wisest thing for you to do is get it designed (which can be done anywhere thanks to the miracle of modern communications), and then find yourself a nearby printer who'll deliver to your door with a minimum of fuss and international shiopping.
KNowing how this sort of thing works just makes me relucant to take your money as it wouldn't be the best deal you could get by a very long way. I'm happy to advise, though.
