Believe Communist Propaganda
Sep. 20th, 2002 09:50 amI've been discussing politics a lot recently with some of my left-wing chums. Unsurprisingly, most of them are either students or unemployed (I've always felt you can best judge the strength of someones conviction in left-wing doctrines by whether or not they still hold on to those ideas when they hit the 40% tax bracket), which has lead to some interesting differences in opinion, to say the least.
Now, I was planning to write a piece about left-wing politics and why I'm not a fan, but unfortunately I simply haven't had time - real life does tend to intrude.
And so I dug out this; it's from an RPG I wrote entitled "Vietnam Bloodbath: Where Charlie gets his". Naturally, being as it is a fun-filed family game set in the laugh-a-minute world of South-east Asian counter-insurgency warfare, no reputable gaming company will even look at it, but I'll publishing it one of these days when I have a few thousand lying round that I happen not to want.
Anyway; one of the major themes in the game is insanity, and it's benefits to being involved in soldiering - and one of the insanities it is possible to gain is "Believe Communist Propaganda", which does just what it says on the tin. I think it sums up, fairly succinctly, my opinion of left wing political and economic structures.
Believe Communist Propaganda.
If this insanity is taken, then the character falls under the spell of the writings of Marx, Lenin, and Chairman Mao and that most awful of fates befalls him: becoming a Commie! Every level of this insanity results in the character gaining 2 points in their strength and toughness stats (to a maximum of 100, due to all the hard work on the collective farm), but losing 5 points from the intelligence and perception stats (to a minimum of -10, caused by them becoming increasingly blinkered to the real world around them). Thus being taken in by the propaganda results in the character eventually becoming a hard working, drooling, imbecilic dupe of the international Communist Conspiracy!
As the character rises in levels in this insanity, they will also begin to develop various hideous and unnatural sexual perversions (one per level), chosen from this list: Homosexuality, Liking to go on top (female characters only), Sado- Masochism, Habitual Masturbation, Voyeurism, Bestiality. This is because it is common knowledge that all Commies are perverts who want to pollute our kids with their sick ideas.
The only cure for Communism and similar left wing views is for the character to gain a large amount of money. No-one may have a 'Believe Communist Propaganda' insanity score higher then their net worth in thousands of U.S. dollars.
Example: Gregor is a slobbering imbecile and believes firmly in the Communist doctrines (level 6) until one day his rich American uncle dies and leaves him 6000 dollars. Gregor suddenly becomes a lot smarter and his beliefs in the rights of the worker and the equal distribution of wealth disappear overnight. Gregor sets about spending the money and soon he has none left after several nights of champagne, gambling, cigars and prostitutes. His communist beliefs promptly return as strongly as ever.
The Communist will also become addicted to listening to that Goddam subversive 'rock & roll' music.
