In case you'd missed the big news, this week is National Chip Week, an event designed to promote chips because, obviously, you know, as a population the British don't eat enough of them. Can it be any co-incidence that National Chip week has been timed for the same week as St. Valentine's Day? What could be more romantic than you and your dearest of heart snuggled up together under the covers, making your sheets smell strongly of vinegar (and then eating some chips)?

A little-known delicacy which obviously needs the marketing push of it's own week, the humble chip was invented by restauranteur Charles "Chip" Potato in 1951 when he realised that his customers wanted both carbohydrates and fats in a single foodstuff, and for a long time was only served on the most exclusive establishments. It was only in the 1980's that popular "Fish and" shops up and down the land recognised an opportunity to put someting on the end of their name.

And so, to help you end up like this healthy fellow, here's a list of exciting chip recipes for the rest of the week to help you experience every possible application of this delightful foodstuff:

Tuesday: Chip Butty
Wenesday: Chip Barm
Thursday: Pommes frites avec pain et ketchup
Friday: Papas fritas emparedado
Saturday: Suu Teaw san ming zhi

Enjoy!
