Digging round in my room the other day I came across this, for those of you as remember it.

"Would you like to be Valentine of Set?"
"What's that?"
"It's like being Bride of Dracula, but less of a commitment."

Odd to think it was five years ago.

Ah RP nostalgia; I found my folder of characters from University, many happy memories.

The last page and the follower of set ads were always the best thing in Nightworld :)

K de C was actually the last time I looked forward to the Cam. These days I just go to see the people I know and wouldn't see anywhere else.

Yeah, playing Marcus was fun a lot of the time. Much more fun than playing Charlie was- at least people talked to Marcus at games! :)

And playing the Mincers of Set was vastly entertaining! *giggle*

It's true. The number of conversations I had along the lines of "You're a bad guy. We know you're a bad guy. But we don't just kill you because we want to see what you're going to do next". Ah, nostalgia.

Ah yes; the new game I just haven't managed to really get into so much; much the same feeling.

Although; we could do a last page special for the Order...

*blinks*

Wow, that's taken me back a couple of years to when I had a really good time in the Cam. I should think about playing again at some point I reckon.

Hmn...I wonder what tehorder could promote?

The problem I'm finding is that Requiem is so ill-thought-out that I find playing it mildly intellectually offensive.

Karl was lots of fun to play with.

It does take me back to a fun part of my life.

I think I still have that Spangly Silver T shirt I used to wear and the Blue Nylon Pants.

Yers; I know; the former - although developed much more organically was much more atmospheric...

This one developed to be more 'balanced' just isn't cutting it...

Still... do what you can ;)

You are the only person whom I have ever taken out a contract on by accident.

The sad thing is that Requiem really does suck and it's very hard to do anything with unless you have a good bunch of people to game with - it's why I like Southwark. The background is less important than the backstabbing.

I spent the first half of 5 years ago panicking about my finals and avoiding games. I spent a lot of the second half at games but I was pretty drunk :)

Really? I spent my games that year convincing people they'd met Set, firing a cow at someone from a trebuchet, handing out choclates and working for both the exsangue and the OTJ in the hope of getting them both in the same room at the same time and then legging it.

I think I was at the same game as you once, I had a sugar dummy...

not sure whether I did anything at games that was game related but I am presuming so as I was Clan head Toreador and they didn't sack me.

Ah. I haven't actually read any of the source material yet, which is never helpful. I was assuming it was effectievly 'V:tM - rehashed' rather than anything dramatically different. What's particularly bad about it?

However, despite the inherent badness, there are probably enough people kicking around I could haul a group together to bounce off, even if they ended up playing secondaries.

Date: 2006-01-19 12:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] davywavy.livejournal.com
The best summary I can think of is that the basis of V:TM was written by one person with a vision. This tends to lead to products that may be flawed, but have an internal atmosphere which can be strong enough for the flaws to be acceptable. V:TR was plainly written by a committee to tick all the boxes, and it feels like a committee effort.
On a personal gripe, the theological basis of a large slice of the game was plainly written by someone utterly ignorant of any major thread of Christian thought or philosphy of the last two thousand years, and instead it reads like a rant by a chippy lapsed Catholic.

V:TR reads like it was written by people with very few cultural references outside of game product and the depth of knowledge or thought to write a basis for a society hundreds, if not thousands of years old is just lacking. Scrath the surface, and there's nothing there. The society simply could not work as presented, and the lack of atmosphere means this is very noticable.

The backstabbing is the ONLY thing!
To be honest it was why I wanted to run Southwark, and run it the way I do.

Not so much ignoring the source materials as puuting them on a nice shelf for people to use on occasion but to mostly focus on other things'.

But I will admit- I am CONSTANTLY surprised at the way Southwark players pick up on this and go with it. The sheer amount of twisted, convaluted, subtle and not so subtle attempts to wind each other up...
(sighs happily)

It's even better than the old world for one crucial reason- NO ONE is trying to kill each other. No one is.
The old campaign, you got into an IC fued, someone would try and wack you. End of story.
This one (Southwark anyway), it is all about keeping your foes around to make their lives miserable. Even when people want someone dead, they back away from it.

Devious, twisted, malicious, evil players who make my day every game.

I like to think that is why Southwark is popular with a certain type of player (namely- hard core evil role-players who enjoy the fun of pitting wits against each other in cruel and inventive ways).

Mind you- its the civilians I feel sorry for!

I know that I could make my life a lot easier through witless slaughter, and I've often been *this* close to saying "Kill him, him, him, her, him, him and her. It'll just make my life easier for a couple of months until the next batch arrive"

I played VthR as a table top at GenCon 2004 and enjoyed it but then I did have a good group who all focused on the story. There's not much opportunity to get into characters or relationships in such a short time.
Perhaps MrWade, you could focus any redundant seconds you have in your day into creating your own world of darkness?

Aww, if I was in any way sensitive, or sober, I could consider that aimed at me. In any case, do not worry, we are at the halfway point of a D'Arcy Idiot Cycle.

Month 1: D'Arcy does something really stupid because he had not thought of the consequences.
Month 2: D'Arcy runs around covering it up, often dropping himself into further trouble.
Month 3; D'Arcy relaxes, thinking he has got away with it and swearing never to do anything so stupid again.
Month 4: Something sparkly is dangled in front of D'Arcy and thus the D.I.C. starts again.
(At least, that is why I am claiming people keep calling me a D.I.C. head.

I didn't think that was how the Harpy spelled it.

Now I have found you, may I friend you?

I am possibly the only person on the planet to really, actually enjoy Requiem. 'Stuff in books' has never been important to me.

Am currently on a Proxy of extreme D-O-O-M. Again...

Or maybe, if you are all fed up with Requiem, you could come and play the game of ultimate shininess in London.

The problem I have with it - and especially the LS - is that the philosophy I'm expected to play to actually makes no sense. It's genuinely incoherent, which makes suspension of disbelief very difficult.

Well, this is the huge advantage of having your splat book not come out till last! I may well enjoy the game less when it finally does. Assuming character survives that long.

Playing a blood sucking vampire, of course, makes perfect sense in anyone's philosophy.
