Digging round in my room the other day I came across this, for those of you as remember it.

"Would you like to be Valentine of Set?"
"What's that?"
"It's like being Bride of Dracula, but less of a commitment."

Odd to think it was five years ago.

The best summary I can think of is that the basis of V:TM was written by one person with a vision. This tends to lead to products that may be flawed, but have an internal atmosphere which can be strong enough for the flaws to be acceptable. V:TR was plainly written by a committee to tick all the boxes, and it feels like a committee effort.
On a personal gripe, the theological basis of a large slice of the game was plainly written by someone utterly ignorant of any major thread of Christian thought or philosphy of the last two thousand years, and instead it reads like a rant by a chippy lapsed Catholic.

V:TR reads like it was written by people with very few cultural references outside of game product and the depth of knowledge or thought to write a basis for a society hundreds, if not thousands of years old is just lacking. Scrath the surface, and there's nothing there. The society simply could not work as presented, and the lack of atmosphere means this is very noticable.
