I never realised how hard it could be to give away free champagne.

Because I spend a lot of the time travelling, I tend to read a lot on the train. When I'm doing this, I like to use the ticket for the journey as a bookmark. Not only does this mean I'm less likely to lose my ticket, but it also means that if I pick that book up again years later, I'll find the ticket in it and it'll act as an aide memoire as to what I was doing and where I was going when I first read it. It's rather nice.

Do any of you lot do anything like this?

I was wandering round the building all night saying "I say, anyone care for some free fizz?" and as astonished by how few takers there were. I almost ended up tipping the last half bottle down the sink as the landlord wanted us out and it still wasn't finished.

I never had the need to do that until recently although I do occasionally find uncashed wage cheques from my overpaid job de jour!. And unless I am mistaken most people know better to expect anything to be "Free" when you are handing it out!

I used to do the train-ticket thing - and still enjoy the occassional jewel that pops up in an old book ... but as I cycle these days, and MUNI is a bit more 'show and go' - I have less use for a distributed ticket storage method. Now, I mostly go in for torn strips of paper, usually covered with obscure observations of the moment or shopping lists (how mundane!).

As for Free Champagne - oh dear, it's all about style and presentation don't you know? Throw a party, make Mimosas, have a tray by your doorway - that sort of thing. Oh, and flowers, girls like bubbly-cocktails and flowers, I've heard. ;-)

I love to use UK train tickets as bookmarks, they're the perfect size for it. However I don't leave bookmarks in books, they move on to new books as I start to read them.

I used to press flowers in books and forget they were there. Until I learned how to do it properly it sometimes led to a mouldy stuck up page or two.I tend to use the fly leaf as a bookmark. Being so old I've had to stop hoarding bits as I ran out of space.

I often use reciepts in books for a similar reason. I also tend to twiddle with bits of hair, and pieces that I consider worth saving get put in the book I'm reading... so either I, or some poor unfortunate who borrows the book after me, gets a nice hairy surprise next time it's read. Sometimes this is just the occational hair, sometimes it's nearly a whole headful.

As for the champers... should have invited me... I'd have drunk it :o)
