I've mentioned 'Veitnam Bloodbath' before now; the laugh-a-minute game of South-East Asian counter-insurgency warfare. Sadly, no reputable game company would ever look at it so it's unlikely it'll ever get published unless I do it myself, but I sent [livejournal.com profile] robinbloke a copy for him to read and he's posted a flattering and glowing review of my work , which is always good for the old ego, especially as I was feeling rather down this morning.

Anyone know any game companies that accept unsolicited manuscripts of tasteless comedy wargames?

A hundred an twenty years ago, someone asked Otto von Bismark what he thought the defining factor of global politics for the 20th century would be.

"That the new world speaks English"

Smart guy.

You could try cheapassgames.com. It might be a little rich for their commerical palate, but they might be able to suggest another company if so.

Their common answer is, "If you think it's good - produce it yourself!"
From: [identity profile] davywavy.livejournal.com
I think this is good, but I reckon it'd cost me £2000 to produce in viable quantities (500 copies), which is unachievable for me atm.

Have you considered PDF publication, or is there a needed "piece" cost that can't be replicated in a printout?
From: [identity profile] davywavy.livejournal.com
Not really; it's a personal thing - I'd like to see my work in a printed, bound form. No reason I couldn't e-distribute, it just wouldn't be as personally fulfilling.
From: [identity profile] eddyfate.livejournal.com
Sometimes, e-publication can lead to a later print distribution (I've seen it happen quite a few times).

Just a thought - I'll still poke around.

Toss it to me. If you're willing to wait a (long) while, I might have a company that might be interested...

They're increasingly shifting from the paper envelopes to printed cardboard...they're only one step away from the clever-graphic laminated cardboard I'm afraid! :)

So what's the idea, 'Vietnam' in the way of 'Spree' ?

zac :)

Woo-hoo!

Just to let you know, I got your files. I'll be taking a look at them after ICC (as I have to pour through tons of CAH stuff before Nov. 1).

Publishing

Id say the best way of getting this as a published game is to actually publish the manuscript for free on the net. It works like this - Your game gets played and you have a site to generate players, the game could also be played at cons and so on since its published. Given enough good press, getting a game company to publish your stuff is easy since noone really wants a printed copy when they can get a glossy, and it gets the game even more press.

Especially for these quirky and potentially politically incorrect games, this is the best route.

See : Fudge.
