You'd think that Americans, of all people, would understand why folks might object to placing final authority of their society in the hands of an unaccountable body in a foreign land on the other side of the Atlantic, and then being asked to pay for it.

It appears that irony has skipped another generation.

If you'll excuse me, I'm off to toss my copy of Laws of the Night into the Thames.

He's moved to America and posted on UK-General, urging the Brits to submit to their new American overlords. He's the only UK-Cammie I know who is WW all the way.

He's actually finally moved? I missed that.
I suppose that means I'll never get those drinks he owed me for betting that John McCain would win the election.

In addition he posted an e-mail to UK GEneral going "The UK is insular and unco-operative when it comes to GLobal, and I wonder why the STs bother to run a game in a global continuity."

And then he unsubbed from the list.

Though, has to be said, he has a point.

What, the point that he, a Brit, who has moved to America & whole heartedly bought into the internationalism thing, thinks that Brits are insular and uncooperative, and then decided to punctuate his point by leaving the email list so no-one could argue with him?

It beggars my sense of logic, at least...

Mark, we *are* an insular society and its odd, because the fact that "the US is full of cheese" and "its where all the crazy plots happen" and "its where you get cool global plot" is a) generally what is felt about us (the first two) and the third is because either players aren't integrated to the global game so there is no natural movement of things, or UK STs generally don't ask for things and/or we're not good at running these things (in fairness, when they're available).

But...as a whole, the UK player base isn't very good at reaching outside of our nation, even into Europe. Much of that, I rather suspect, is that people don't know how to make these links and ties - and that its intimidating (especially for a casual player).

Not that it's my problem these days but you probably do have a point about perceptions.

However, there is also the fact that global generally = lots of internet time and as so much of it always appeared (note, appeared) to be chatroom based also = the problem of time zones.

For a lot of people, they'd probably prefer a lighter touch to 'global' stuff and be able to spend time doing other things.

I'd also be interested to see proprotionally how many players in other countries are involved in international stuff or just play a local game or two.

My experience of international play was quite the opposite. As you know I travelled widely internationally and I'm, to say the least, an aggressive player who likes to get things done. As a player, I never felt that the opportunity to get involved in stuff internationally was there as much as I'd like, plotwise (interacting with other players was a different matter), and the one time I really felt I was getting somewhere I ended up being told that the stuff I was trying to do didn't work because...the plot had been written for someone in Texas. Not because the stuff I was trying to do wouldn't work or anything, but because it hadn't been written with me in mind.

As an officer, I often found the US to be uncommunicative; finding that stuff I'd spent months working on wasn't actually relevant because nobody had told me about XYZ - in spite of my having asked beforehand - remains a particularly galling Cam moment.

I'm sure others have a different opinion, but my personal experience was that trying to work internationally as either a player or an officer was a waste of time, which is a major reason I stopped trying.

Hmm, well, i've largely been a (higher level) officer for Forsaken only, where i've found the ST team to be good and communicative...well, when they're in office/talking (there have been issues). Generally though the "team" worked well.

As a player i've had no issues with getting involved with gaming when i've gone to places, though have never really gotten myself involved with plots (possibly ever) so cannot comment on that!

No, the BBC :o) They ran a report about salmon by the House of Parliament a few years ago.

At least if you turn it into compost it will be made into something useful!
