Scientists at Kings College Hospital have identified signs of "clear, coherent attempts at communication" from Labour leader Ed Milliband by studying his pattern of blinks, it is reported this morning.
"We've all seen Ed at Prime Ministers Questions, standing gormlessly with his mouth open and saying nothing but blinking furiously, and thought higher brain function had entirely ceased. However, by studying patterns in his blinks we believe he is, in some desperate way, trying to make contact to the outside world. Possibly using morse code", said Doctor Frank Pearson.
Doctors used cameras to record and slow the high-speed blinking to clear levels and found what appeared to be a message sequence. "It seems to say "Oh, God, what am I doing here? Help me. Help me", said Dr. Pearson. "But that can't be right. Why would he be saying that? Possibly we're just using the wrong decoding tools."
The findings offer new hope to other politicians suffering from 'locked-in' syndrome, such as Gordon Brown and Ed Balls who have been 'locked-in' a broom cupboard to prevent the press talking to them ever since the economy started to recover.
