You know that bit about the independent judiciary in your constitution?

Not any more!

On IRC the other day an american asked me for a definition of 'irony'. I suggested that the new Iraqi Constitution (drafted by the US) having a section guaranteeing the rights of women whilst the US has no such thing summed it up pretty well.

Leave it to an American to not know the definition of irony.

Although that is rather fair bit of irony (the constitution)

Something a right wing american friend said when asked what he felt america meant to him...

I think that America has a manifest destiny to be the premier entity on the world stage, policeman to the world, and moral leader to the rest of the world. Irreguardless of what Richard Nixon did with pornography.

I feel that this nation was founded by God, but the current populace seems to have either partially or fully turned their backs on Him. Their choice. But I choose to make a stand for Him, to be a light for those people who turned their backs on God, and to let them know about Jesus.

I believe in Justice for all, and liberty, but not at the expence of a pillar of our society.

Scary Stuff.

As an atom-bombed constutionally-pacifist economic-titan nation, Japan has fulfilled more of America's dreams and nightmares, than the US has.

I was thinking more about writing their constitution with equality for women, but that too.

Comes as no surprise

What with the complaints in Mass. about 'activist judges' ruling in favour of gay marriage.

'Activist judge' - as if somehow the judiciary should be beholden to other vested political interests.

their pledge of alleigence is unconstitutional, let alone anything else... i pledge alleigence to the falg of the united states of america, the republic for which it stands, one nation under god, with justice and liberty for all" urm... the constitution states that religion is not a defining factor of an american, and which religion if any is not an issue yet...
