Best live band I've ever seen, bar none.

Who's yours?

Ani DiFranco by a long way. Tiny, but with such amazing energy and excitement that she makes her gigs an amazing experience.

told you there were good ;-)

hurm... not sure about best as I've been to sooo many gigs that have been sooo wonderful in their own way and for their own reasons. I enjoyed seeing the Stones but that was more for the Show rather than the Band, its not like when I saw The Misfits and got to speak with all of them. And for atmosphere / presence Enter Shikari utterly ruled but Motorhead just had this fervour of cool/grandeur to them which even the Stones failed to achieve.

errrr... short answer 'dunno and don't think I ever will'

toss up between Beck (Brixton Academy, 2004 I think), the Kills (Oxford Zodiac, 2005) Zodiac Mindwarp (Whitby 2005), Guitar Wolf (93 feet east, 2007) and Amanda Palmer (Manchester Pride, Sunday just gone)

All of those left me with a mahoooosive grin on my face for ages. There have been others that came pretty close though. If I had to pick just one I'd have to say Guitar Wolf...

Beck is awesome live, I saw him at the end of his european tour and they burned all their instruments on stage...crazy.

Guitar Wolf Id love to see live. And I envy you for getting to see Zodiac Mindwarp...

Oh, and he's very short and dresses in a tracksuit when not in character, if that helps put you off.

not really! XD

i met him first at a KLF gig... he is indeed very short, and he was dressed as a Vegas vicar in a gold lame suit and too much brylcreem... not terribly sexeh

then met him again backstage at Whitby (for my sins.. the Other Half was playing on the same night)

i have a similar problem with Alice Cooper

i've seen Beck quite a few times and he's always great! my favorite time was when they turned the lights out for one song and they were wearing suits made of glowy cables so it was like watching wire-frame animation.

Beck is better live sometimes than on record, and has lots of energy. Marylin manson had a cool stage show too, tho i think for me the chemical brothers had the most impressive lights and animations, one of my fave gigs of all time as well.

Saw the arcade fire at the weekend, a supposedly good band live, didnt work for me...I need to do more gigs.

The big bands who have tons of practise come out on top, mainly cos they been doing it sooo long, so no wonder the stones are good...id love to see them myself.

There is no bar none in ths hame for me, but... Eagles of Death metal really work awesome in a live setting, Marylin Manson at leeds a few years back was very good, as was Beck the same weekend. Spiritualized also work well live!

Unquestionably, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, but Aerosmith (in the early 90s) were good when I saw them, too. On a smaller scale BB King and Luther Allison (especially the one with his son just a year or so before he died) always delivered whenever I saw them.

It's hard to pick just one!

Consistent live brilliance:
Iron Maiden are awesome live. I've seen them 4 times and they are always rather excellent :)

Most insane live band:
Has to be Rammstein! Any band who set each other on fire has to be a bit special :)

Best concert I ever went to:
A Portuguese band called Moonspell. I saw them in about 2000/2001-ish, and that concert was just sheer mightyness :) But then they are one of my favourite bands ever :) One day I will see them live again. One day!

Gary Numan was the best gig I've ever been to... for a man pushing 50 he had the energy of a 24yr old.

Bauhaus were also fairly amazing, and Killing Joke pulled their weight.

Well, I can list off every concert I've been to here, complete with brief critique....

Paula Abdul: Obviously, well produced, well choreographed, well done. But it was really all about the voice and the fact that I was a drooling teen and she was, well, Paula.

The Eagles (1996 Tour): Well played, but left the concert wishing it was a Joe Walsh concert instead. He had the most fun out of any of them on stage, and it was obvious.

Weird Al: Saw him in Akron just a few nights before his parents passed away. Almost as overblown as Paula's show, but a lot more fun. The taped concerts don't do his show any justice at all. Second favorite, easily.

Tesla: Great stage energy and presence, and I saw it with just a couple hundred other people at the House of Blues in Cleveland. Going back next month, most likely. Definitely my favorite concert band.

Nightwish: Awesome show, and not really sure what to make of the post-Tarja lineup. I guess I'll find out in October. (We don't get the new album for another 5 weeks, and the Cleveland show is two weeks after that.)
